Secret Yellowstone is a web site dedicated to Yellowstone National Park, obviously. And, to a much lesser extent, Grand Teton National Park. It’s rather unusual to visit one without at least stopping in at the other, so although the majority of SY is oriented toward YNP, you’ll find some tidbits of information about GTNP as well.
This is not your standard “tourist” oriented site. The intent of SY is to provide some insight into how the park works and shed some light on aspects of YNP that most people are not familiar with, and to provide information for which there is no other reliable source (at least on the web). The average tourist doesn’t care how the fire department in Yellowstone works, for example, but we have that information here for those few who are seeking that information.
And rather than just say, “Here’s Old Faithful Inn and the room rates,” I want to provide you with a floor plan, photos of various portions of the building, and some historical information about the Inn itself.
I have tried to include the basic information for those who stumble across SY looking for opening and closing dates, admission costs, things to do here and there, and the other “basic” amenities one might expect on a web site dedicated to Yellowstone. But I hope you’ll use SY to foment a much richer exploration of the park itself.
This site will be a living site – I’ll be updating it as plans change, as new buildings are erected and old ones are torn down, and as the people and infrastructure that make the park work change over time. If you do come across something here that appears out of date or is inaccurate, please point it out to me. And, if you would like to see something here that we’re not covering, feel free to let me know; I’ll see if I can add it into the mix for you.
And, if you’d like to help out, I am always seeking new and updated photos of the various buildings and goings on within the park. I’ll be posting a new page following our June trip (during which I’ll be working to obtain many of the photos I need for the site) that explains how to go about doing this. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, I hope you’ll spend some time here and enjoy the secret aspects of Yellowstone National Park.
